He was having MAJOR behavioral problems in school. As soon as I found out about it, I got involved to help his mom and got to know his teachers and some school administrators. (I actually sat in his classroom all day for a week or two.) Luckily, with a few counseling sessions and some extra attention, he's doing much better. YAY!!!! I'm so proud of him!<br />
<br />
Since the end of the school year is approaching and I've been playing with my new embroidery machine, I decided to make something for the people who helped us through the rough patch. I've been seeing people post Mug Rugs on Pinterest, so thought I'd try them.<br />
<br />
Sunday I decided to tackle this new adventure. Since I took some time last week to organize my fabric, it was much easier to find fabric that goes together. (I sorted my fabric by color.) After deciding what fabrics to use, the next step was to find some embroidery designs to use. So, without further ado, here are the finished projects:<br />
<br />
This is for the Principle - she was a big part of working with us. I had quite a few meetings and phone calls with her. This is one of the last designs I embroidered, and one of the few designs I've purchased. I think it turned out pretty well.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014023_zps3002b543.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 04092014023_zps3002b543.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014023_zps3002b543.jpg" height="208" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
This one is for the Assistant Principle - I spent a couple of days in her office so knew she likes Yorkies. This was a free design!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014024_zps4fc61118.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 04092014024_zps4fc61118.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014024_zps4fc61118.jpg" height="194" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
This is for another staff member who helped in the beginning. I just have to say, men are harder to make things for!!!! Their school mascot is a polar bear = another free design.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014021_zps111fc115.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 04092014021_zps111fc115.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014021_zps111fc115.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
The last two are for his teachers. When I sat in class with him, he had Mrs. McDonald in the morning and Mrs. Haas in the afternoon. After Christmas break, they decided to try to switch and he's doing much better. Both of these were also free designs.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014020_zps28d220d7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 04092014020_zps28d220d7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014020_zps28d220d7.jpg" height="206" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014022_zpsd2c497be.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 04092014022_zpsd2c497be.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/04092014022_zpsd2c497be.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
I found five different web sites that post free designs - it changes every 10 minutes, so I've gotten TONS of free ones from there. Free is always the best, but there have been a few I've purchased.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I really hope they enjoy the gifts. Mug Rugs are really fun to make - I'm thinking I need one now!!! :D<br />

Not as bad as I thought it was.<br />
<br />
I've been busy the last year - I made seven or eight trips to Nebraska to help Todd's dad with doctor appointments and surgeries. He had surgery for his aortic aneurysm in April (after finally getting his blood pressure medication right), then also had a couple minor procedures on his eyelids later in the year. My last trip was over Thanksgiving. Since we were in Hawaii for Christmas 2012, we decided last Christmas we wanted to be home. We have a couple more trips scheduled for this coming summer, so it's nice to have something to look forward to.<br />
<br />
The time between trips last year was spend working on the garden and sewing. I've made LOTS of stuff and didn't always get pictures, but here are some:<br />
<br />
I found this fabric on clearance at Hobby Lobby. It's similar to the curtains I made for the living room, so couldn't resist buying it.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/6DC31E47-34BA-461D-AE76-2BB06321BD22_zpsh6w7g4l6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 6DC31E47-34BA-461D-AE76-2BB06321BD22_zpsh6w7g4l6.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/6DC31E47-34BA-461D-AE76-2BB06321BD22_zpsh6w7g4l6.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Since we had new windows put in last year, I still needed some curtains for the front windows. So this is what I came up with. I used my serger for most of it. I'm still kicking around the idea of putting a lining on them, but if I do, the sun won't come through. <br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/D433F149-45AF-47C7-9570-F2332949976B_zps45beva4f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo D433F149-45AF-47C7-9570-F2332949976B_zps45beva4f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/D433F149-45AF-47C7-9570-F2332949976B_zps45beva4f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I already posted the pencil bag I made for Alyssa, so I also made one for Angel.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/5B9FEF2D-F290-4BA2-ADAE-649B7469F7B6_zpsmzlao4u1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 5B9FEF2D-F290-4BA2-ADAE-649B7469F7B6_zpsmzlao4u1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/5B9FEF2D-F290-4BA2-ADAE-649B7469F7B6_zpsmzlao4u1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I find TONS of things to make on Pinterest, and one was a car trash can!!!! It's designed so you use plastic bags for the lining making it really easy to switch them out and you don't have to worry too much about what you put in it. Made a BUNCH of these!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/23B77E8E-090A-41D2-8A69-47B53D563CED_zpsemefugtc.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 23B77E8E-090A-41D2-8A69-47B53D563CED_zpsemefugtc.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/23B77E8E-090A-41D2-8A69-47B53D563CED_zpsemefugtc.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/5E350B7A-D6B3-427A-9F46-590DA88F6B80_zpssbucbidf.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 5E350B7A-D6B3-427A-9F46-590DA88F6B80_zpssbucbidf.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/5E350B7A-D6B3-427A-9F46-590DA88F6B80_zpssbucbidf.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
One of my last trips to Todd's dad, I also took time to go see my family. My sister had just gotten a new car and asked if I could make some seat covers. We took one of the seat covers off my car to see if it would fit, so I made them pretty much the same. These are hers - the inside of her car is black, so we wanted to stay with the same color. Their initial is in the middle.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/E0223ED9-2D5D-45FD-ABFE-E740214A7236_zps205fi5b9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo E0223ED9-2D5D-45FD-ABFE-E740214A7236_zps205fi5b9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/E0223ED9-2D5D-45FD-ABFE-E740214A7236_zps205fi5b9.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
These were Christmas presents for McKenna. Another Pinterest project. They are reusable snack bags. I made her five and she seems to like them. I had made me a couple to use during my trips in the car and Megan said they would be a good gift for McKenna.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/24FEFF22-1F2E-4AAD-B74A-2E6B3673EDAD_zps4fpwxa3a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 24FEFF22-1F2E-4AAD-B74A-2E6B3673EDAD_zps4fpwxa3a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/24FEFF22-1F2E-4AAD-B74A-2E6B3673EDAD_zps4fpwxa3a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
This is Hudson's faux Chenille quilt. I make one for each grandchild.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/48FC08E8-952F-49F6-91D0-BA093A8B8D04_zpsnwedvi0x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 48FC08E8-952F-49F6-91D0-BA093A8B8D04_zpsnwedvi0x.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/48FC08E8-952F-49F6-91D0-BA093A8B8D04_zpsnwedvi0x.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I had made a checkbook cover for me and when Todd's dad saw it, he said "you could make me one of those". lol I always look for "Nebraska" fabric when I'm up there and this was the prefect project to use some if it on! (also found pattern on Pinterest)<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/776C5172-AA40-4A4A-9DAB-369AA9E1FAB7_zpsbygfvc1a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 776C5172-AA40-4A4A-9DAB-369AA9E1FAB7_zpsbygfvc1a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/776C5172-AA40-4A4A-9DAB-369AA9E1FAB7_zpsbygfvc1a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
And finally, after make tons of stuff to give other people, I got to make something for me!!!! I've been collecting fabric of things I love - sewing, baking, wine, coffee, travel, etc. Intermingled are scriptures. We've been having lots of cold weather, so started out making it for me to use in the living room while I'm watching TV, but then it got a little bigger and now it fits on our bed. It also has denim on the back, so it's very heavy (which means it's very warm). <br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/A9C7B017-D922-49C6-A032-C295C3695B9A_zpsryg9epk1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo A9C7B017-D922-49C6-A032-C295C3695B9A_zpsryg9epk1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/A9C7B017-D922-49C6-A032-C295C3695B9A_zpsryg9epk1.jpg" /></a><br />
I decided to put a label on it - you can't read it, but it says "Favorite Things by Jyl Godwin January 2014".<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/CB83EEC7-6B70-452D-A871-CDF76A1F88AD_zpsnj9w5t4x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo CB83EEC7-6B70-452D-A871-CDF76A1F88AD_zpsnj9w5t4x.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/CB83EEC7-6B70-452D-A871-CDF76A1F88AD_zpsnj9w5t4x.jpg" /></a><br />
Each fabric on it has it's own meaning - I used some I brought home from Nel's, a piece or two that I brought home from Rena's, and used scraps of the dress I made for our trip to Hawaii.<br />
<br />
Well, I'm going to try to keep up with my blogs a little better. I have another new sewing machine that does embroidery, so that's what the next post will be about. But before that, I'll jump over to my "personal" blog to update it on our Guest Bathroom Remodel.<br />
<br />
Take care!!!!<br />

I have sewn quite a few things, but don't have too many pictures. They are mainly small things that I've found on Pinterest and wanted to try. I'll post them eventually.<br />
<br />
For now, I do have one major project to show. You'll remember when I was so excited I found two desks at The Caring Place (thrift store here in town) for $10 each. Here they are:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/rearrangedoffice040609001.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo rearrangedoffice040609001.jpg" border="0" height="480" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/rearrangedoffice040609001.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Then I added the bookcase to the top (my Ikea hack):<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Organizational%20Tools/SewingProjtoMarch2013009_zpsf9dd707a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013009_zpsf9dd707a.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/SewingProjtoMarch2013009_zpsf9dd707a.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The thought has been going through my mind to try to paint the desk and bookcase so when Todd's Dad was healing from surgery and I thought I had lots of time at home, I decided to take the plunge. One morning I decided (as I often do) to start. Ran to Home Depot and spent $120 on paint and supplies. This was the first painting project I've done for quite a few years, but I'm very happy with the end result.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see in the bookcase that it's painted pink, as is the inside of the drawers and the left compartment. It was hard and took a while, but I'm pretty happy with it. </div>

The hole in the back of the bookcase is just some foam board I had and covered it with fabric (that is also on the bottom of the drawers) and nailed in each corner. Not as sturdy as a bulletin board, but works just the same.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another project - BINGO Bags! I saw a lady had one while we were at Bingo a while go so snapped a picture.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to search on Pinterest to see if I could find a pattern. Didn't find an actual pattern, but enough information for me to make one. I made one for Sam first. Used my new sewing machine that has lots of different stitches.</div>

<br />
I made is so ti only holds 8 daubers. We went to Bingo last Saturday night so I had to buy enough daubers to fill it up and Sam forgot hers!!! lol<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxsJgw77MWe8_4kw_JsNSaRUX5XV4EDsJVWFRCNVYNu1lY3aiANqx1L_zL6zlHwDodqHSnnep8DD1CZDGpF3ZyWuJnTZ4AXiC6Mk5ADK-3-og7haWfOPgCMJHYS3wOduH3E8vSvaf4gZVI/s1600/IMG_0185.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
And as you may know, we have another grandbaby!!! Hudson was born on March 9, 2013<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We finally got to meet him last month. David and Megan are back from Hawaii for good (sad we can't go visit them again) and they were here for a few days over Father's Day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
For each grandbaby, there are a few things I make. I've already made him an afghan, so I decided I needed to start his name quilt. It's just his name appliqued onto the sandwich, but I do hand quilt the lines. So it's in the middle of our living room right now. Hopefully it will be done by the time Todd makes it home again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI2WH3hJtkH7LnIcnDKHAD_6g6euTkmUQDc-ToRG3Ny8TpU3eFObGUDcVqpGQ94LNV2_90VydpAeBOvLm_zGl3flLB2c7BimcPPB8wgU-ZqXcsYym470VG4wzeJFYaJZtcqDJ_nbUYO7Uq/s1600/IMG_0251.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI2WH3hJtkH7LnIcnDKHAD_6g6euTkmUQDc-ToRG3Ny8TpU3eFObGUDcVqpGQ94LNV2_90VydpAeBOvLm_zGl3flLB2c7BimcPPB8wgU-ZqXcsYym470VG4wzeJFYaJZtcqDJ_nbUYO7Uq/s640/IMG_0251.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally!!!!! I decided to splurge and replace the curtains that were in the living room by the kitchen. While at JoAnn's a few weeks ago, I noticed they had their Home Decor fabric 50% off, plus I had a 10% off entire purchase coupon, so decided to get some more fabric that I made the curtains for the sliding glass doors in the living room. Anyway, the fabric for this small window cost over $80 - and that's at 60% off!!!!! I made them the same as the others and it looks MUCH better!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg074hYP3_QBUMT1jJwjq2H4LnZhBJSqGGSUIe5kWLvZ3knhbLIlSCzDoCY1GL6TexRPYBbmEkFiB0JrLbRH8Yt22ZByO541eaXCKZ0EGOhd-jY-9jqWTOahSutzTBKUXNzAyGMnPQaROKS/s1600/IMG_0248.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg074hYP3_QBUMT1jJwjq2H4LnZhBJSqGGSUIe5kWLvZ3knhbLIlSCzDoCY1GL6TexRPYBbmEkFiB0JrLbRH8Yt22ZByO541eaXCKZ0EGOhd-jY-9jqWTOahSutzTBKUXNzAyGMnPQaROKS/s640/IMG_0248.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The bad part is that Todd now wants me to make some for the two LARGE windows we have in the dining room and front hallway. Those windows are about 4 times the size as this one, so we'll have to wait until we build up some more money until that's done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have more pictures of my garden that I'll post on my other blog soon. The problem I have is I've been using Photobucket to keep my pictures and I'm running out of room. I need to either pay for more storage space (and I'm to "frugal") to do that, or delete some photos to free up some more room. Soon I'll need to go through them and decide what to keep and what not to keep.</div>

My FIL had surgery on April 19, 2013 to correct his Aortic Aneurysm and it went very well. I stayed with him to recover, then he had an Eye Dr. appointment at the VA Hospital in Omaha on May 1, so decided to stay to take him to that. He also had a follow-up appt with the surgeon on May 2, so once he got a clean bill of health, I headed home again. That trip was two weeks, so I was very anxious to get home! I didn't take Brute with me this time, since we were going to be had the hospital and staying with my parents a few nights, I just thought it would be best to let Samantha keep him. I don't know who was more excited for me to get home - me or him. I missed him SOOO MUCH!!!<br />
<br />
I did get to spend a little time with my family in Milford, and my sister on the last trip. (Saw my parents on the other visits, but it never worked out to see her.) Anyway, she wanted me to make a coat for her grand-dog (her son's dog, she doesn't have grandKIDS yet). (I had made one for Brute and our trips to Nebraska, so I'll need to upload those pictures and do a separate post.) They are fans of the Chicago Bears, so I found some fleece to use. Here's the finished product before I sent it to her:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/null_zpsc21d74b6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo null_zpsc21d74b6.jpg" border="0" height="480" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/null_zpsc21d74b6.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The inside:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/null_zpsc769e5d7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo null_zpsc769e5d7.jpg" border="0" height="480" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/null_zpsc769e5d7.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
And the picture she sent me yesterday after she received the package:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/null_zps2a77cf3c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo null_zps2a77cf3c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/null_zps2a77cf3c.jpg" /></a><br />
His name is Zeus. lol A really nice pit bull.<br />
<br />
I'm so glad it fits. She sent along the old coat they had for him so I used that as a pattern.<br />
<br />
Oh, and this was the first thing I made with my NEW SEWING MACHINE!!! Not that I needed another one, this is #6. I put three of the old ones upstairs and whenever the girls are ready, they can have them.<br />
<br />
I'm itching to get back in the office to do some more sewing so keep checking back! I'm going to try to get back to posting blogs more often! (We have a trip coming up to Las Vegas, so if I make anything for that I'll make sure to post them)Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-26308625400035805172013-03-18T17:50:00.001-05:002013-03-18T17:53:33.079-05:00No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.I've just been neglecting my blogs. lol<br />
<br />
We had an absolute WONDERFUL time on out trip to Hawaii. It was so nice to see Megan and her family and our beach cottage at Turtle Bay Resort was HEAVEN. I really don't think I've ever been anywhere so beautiful. I'll do a post with pictures on that on my other blog one of these days.<br />
<br />
In the mean time, I have been sewing some things. I'll work backwards - today I made a pencil case for Alyssa (our oldest granddaughter who turned 10 in February). She needed one to put in her binder, so I looked on Pinterest and found <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/the-angeleigh-a-b2s-pencil-case/instructions/1" target="_blank">this tutorial</a>. (You have to log in to get it, but it's a good tute.) As usual, I didn't make mine exactly like the tute, but the only thing I changed was how I did the zipper. Mine is how I make cosmetic bags and I think looks a little better. Since I don't have a really fancy sewing machine (yet) that does cool names, I just used the Bernina that was my MIL's.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013006_zps1506a451.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013006_zps1506a451.jpg" border="0" height="425" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013006_zps1506a451.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013007_zps7d628643.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013007_zps7d628643.jpg" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013007_zps7d628643.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
It turned out pretty good. I think she'll like it. The only thing I should have done differently is make the buttonholes on the bottom a little bigger. But I can always make them bigger if she wants me to.<br />
<br />
<br />
I had to make a quick trip to Nebraska to see my FIL. He's been diagnosed with an Aortic Aneurysm. Since he's 78 and pretty hard of hearing, we thought someone needed to go to his Dr. appts with him. Since Todd's brother and his wife both work full time, and Todd's our only breadwinner, I thought I better be the one to go. I was there a week so decided to make myself a flannel pillowcase to take along!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013015_zps29e59308.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013015_zps29e59308.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013015_zps29e59308.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
I had bought the fabric at JoAnn's a while ago and didn't know exactly what I'd make with it. (I do that a lot - expecially with sewing themed fabric.)<br />
<br />
<br />
While emptying Todd's truck one weekend when he was home, I noticed that his blue jean comforter is looking a little ragged, so I made him a new one. Used lots of old jeans, then also added a few squares of clothes that were his mom's and grandmother's that were left over from the Memory Quilts I made back in 2010 after they passed away.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013001_zps258e8fa2.jpg.html" nbsp="" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013001_zps258e8fa2.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013001_zps258e8fa2.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
This one is REALLY heavy!!! But that's good, since he goes through lots of snow in the winter.<br />
<br />
And finally, I made some more belly bands for Brute. The first ones I made I used velcro to close them, but he figured out that he can go underneath the couch and get them off. So I had to figure out how to make some that he can't do that anymore. I made them long and used elastic and buttons to close them. I had some plastic that was sandwiched between flannel (so they don't soak through), so layered that and old towels or terry cloth. I figured out that it was much easier to make the inside layers, sew them with my serger, then make the covers a little larger and slip the inside layers inside. I topstiched all the way around to keep the inside layers from turning. I also used a different flannel for the side that goes to his body so it's easy to identify.<br />
These are the first ones:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013010_zps41c6aaae.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013010_zps41c6aaae.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013010_zps41c6aaae.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013011_zpscfad8fcd.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013011_zpscfad8fcd.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013011_zpscfad8fcd.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Then I did a few that are a little longer. (But these need the buttons adjusted - they are too loose and he gets out of them, too.)<br />
Outside:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013012_zpsd0412827.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013012_zpsd0412827.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013012_zpsd0412827.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Inside:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013013_zpse4213a49.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013013_zpse4213a49.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/SewingProjtoMarch2013013_zpse4213a49.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
I now have enough that I do a load in the washer when almost all of them are dirty. He'll be celebrating his 12th birthday in August, so he's getting old. :( <br />
<br />
One last project isn't a sewing project, but an addition to my desk in the office. It's an "Ikea hack". I saw some of them on Pinterest and decided that was what I needed. I purchsed a plain "Billy" bookcase, but had Todd cut it into three different pieces. We put each piece together, then put the largest piece on it's side an attached it to the two smaller pieces and ended up with LOTS more storage!!!! I'm hoping I have time sometime this summer to paint both the desk and the bookcase so that they match.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Organizational%20Tools/SewingProjtoMarch2013009_zpsf9dd707a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo SewingProjtoMarch2013009_zpsf9dd707a.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/SewingProjtoMarch2013009_zpsf9dd707a.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
(I know, what a mess on my desk. You'd think I'd now have room for everything so I could clean off the top, but I'm waiting for another phone call from my FIL and I'll have to leave to go to Nebraska again.)<br />
<br />
Anyway, sorry it took me so long to get another post done. I do have a few more projects that I've made but haven't taken pictures yet. So keep checking back!!!!!<br />

I decided I needed to use the rest of the "Texas Longhorn" fabric and make some luggage tags. Browsing around Pinterest, I found a few tutorials on making them, but eventually ended up using a few hints from different ones and came up with my own design.<br />
<br />
One thing I did use was how to print on fabric. I had heard many people do this, but never did myself. I just always bought the special paper at craft stores, but this is MUCH CHEAPER!! Which, if you know me at all, you know is something I LOVE. Anyway, you just use freezer paper and iron the shiny side to the fabric. I did that before I cut the fabric to the size of a regular piece of paper, 8 1/2 by 11.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I printed them off and went on my way. The first one I made didn't turn out too great, so I kept going and ended up with this:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/Dec12012008.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/Dec12012008.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
One for each of our new piece of luggage. Our two checked bags and two carry-ons.<br />
<br />
Other side:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/Dec12012007.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/Dec12012007.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I made them so they just fold in half, and a small piece of velcro keeps it closed. Here's the inside:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/media/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/Dec12012009.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/Dec12012009.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I did put a piece of interfacing underneath the address for a little stiffness and just used elastic I had on hand to attach them to the handles. I already have a small piece of this fabric tied onto all the handles, so these will be additional. It will make our luggage much easier to find at the airport!Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-70066632291224484532012-11-08T10:55:00.001-06:002012-11-08T11:00:28.284-06:00A Couple More Projects Done for Hawaii TripI'm slowly getting things done that have been on my "To-Do for Hawaii" List. One of the things I decided to do was a cover for my Canon Rebel Strap. I had made one out of flannel before, but I really wasn't too happy with it. I had bought some orange "UT" fabric a little while ago to use to mark our luggage for the trip and had some left over, so decided to use it for the new strap. <br />
Here's the new strap cover:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Camera Strap" border="0" height="225" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/camerastrapandcordpouchesnov12002.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
In case you're interested, <a href="http://www.designsponge.com/2009/06/diy-wednesdays-camera-strap-cover.html" target="_blank">here is the tutorial I used</a>. I like that it's nice and tight on the strap.<br />
I had to use my other camera to take the picture, so it's not very good. <br />
<br />
I also wanted to make some pouches to keep all my cords in. Decided to dig out the Bernina sewing machine (that used to be my mother-in-law's) to label them. Again, the pictures aren't that great.<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Pouches for cords" border="0" height="225" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/camerastrapandcordpouchesnov12005.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
A closer look at how they are labeled. I had some old fabric paint brushes from years ago so used them to color in the letters. The "ear phones" one I tried to used some dimensional fabric paint but that didn't work very well. lol<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Pouches for cords" border="0" height="225" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/camerastrapandcordpouchesnov12009.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
In case you are wondering, <a href="http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=317558.0" target="_blank">here is the link for the tutorial for these.</a><br />
<br />
Finally, I had been looking for something small to use for a travel journal. I know I'll take one of our laptops so I can upload photos, but it's nice to put pen to paper every once in a while. I had one for our cruise in 2010, so decided I wanted one for this trip, too. Anyway, this is what I found at TJ Maxx for about $4 the other day:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="266" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12003.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
They are small and don't take up too much room, but they're not very pretty.<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="213" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12002.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
So, I decided to try to put new covers on them. I had bought some scrap paper a while ago for another project, so decided to use that to recover them.<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="349" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12001.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
These are the pages I decided to use:<br />
Cover:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="351" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12007.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
And the books:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="338" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12006.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="329" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12005.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="347" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12004.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
All I did was cut the sheets to the correct size, decided what I wanted on the cover and books, then used a glue stick to glue the sheets on. It worked petty good, even though I had to take about 6 pages out of each book so they wouldn't be too tight in the cover.<br />
<br />
This is after they were covered:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="400" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12009.jpg" width="317" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="400" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12008.jpg" width="304" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="266" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12011.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Then I decided to make some labels (printed on clear labels), then coated with modge podge (homemade, recipe <a href="http://doityourselfdivas.blogspot.com/2011/09/diy-mod-podge.html" target="_blank">here</a>). I was pretty happy with them, but while organizing the office (for the millionth time), I found some spray laquer that said it was good for decoupage, so decided to spray that on, too. Here is the finished project:<br />
<a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="400" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12015.jpg" width="302" /></a><span style="color: #0000ee;"><a href="http://s228.beta.photobucket.com/user/tjdjgodwin/library/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff" target="_blank"><img alt="Travel Diary Re-Do" border="0" height="170" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Misc%20Craft%20Stuff/traveldiaryredonov12002.jpg" width="320" /></a></span><br />
<br />
Quite an improvement!!!!!<br />

<br />
<br />
They're not perfect, but I'm really happy with how they turned out! <br />
<br />
I still have some shopping to do before our trip, but need to go through my current wardrobe first to decide what else I need. Counting down the days!!!!!! Todd and I are both really looking forward to the trip!<br />
<br />Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-10888224777142821242012-11-01T14:35:00.003-05:002012-11-01T14:41:15.968-05:00Just another quick postI've had a little free time, so decided to do some more sewing. One thing that I finally got done was a Roman Shade for the storage rooms above our garage. The sun comes in pretty bad, so I bought supplies and made the shade out of off-white denim. I decided on denim because it needed to be pretty sturdy and off-white because that is the main color of the garage. The trim on the garage is a dark blue, but if I had made the shade that color, it just would have faded, so settled on the off-white.<br />
<br />
This was the first Roman Shade I've made, and it certainly could have been better, but it turned out pretty good. I haven't taken a picture yet, but when I do, I'll post it.<br />
<br />
Time is getting closer to our trip to Hawaii!!! (50 days!!!) While cruising around Pinterest the other day, I found a quick project to hold our toothbrushes and toothpaste for the trip. <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/86300220/terrycloth-toothbrush-and-paste-travel" target="_blank">Here's the link.</a> Needless to say, I decided I could whip that up pretty quick. I didn't use a hand towel or anything, I have a couple different colors of terry cloth in my "fabric stash" so used that. Here are the two I made:<br />
<br />
the first one has two layers of terry cloth.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=nov12012012.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/nov12012012.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I used some flannel for the binding and just basic ribbon to tie it closed.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=nov12012014.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/nov12012014.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I decided it was a little bulky, so the next one is only one layer of terrycloth.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=nov12012008.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/nov12012008.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I also added a little flap on the top to keep things from falling out.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=nov12012009.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/nov12012009.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=nov12012010.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/nov12012010.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I'm not exactly sure which one we'll end up taking, it's always possible that we'll each take one since Todd always has his stuff packed for the truck. I may end up making another one that will only hold one toothbrush and one toothpaste. Mainly they will be nice to keep on the counter at the resort where we're staying.<br />
<br />
Yesterday was Halloween. Before Tab and the kids moved out again, I sat down with Alyssa and Angel and we made Tombstones for the front yard for decorations. I finally put them out yesterday - here's a picture.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Crafts%20with%20Grandkids/?action=view&current=nov12012005.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Halloween 2012" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Crafts%20with%20Grandkids/nov12012005.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
A better look at the one I did - the orange is supposed to be glow in the dark.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Crafts%20with%20Grandkids/?action=view&current=nov12012006.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Halloween 2012" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Crafts%20with%20Grandkids/nov12012006.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
The only other decoration I had outside were the solar lights that are always there. I found some cheap Orange napkins, so cut slips of them and put them in the lights so they glowed orange. The kids enjoyed them!!!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Crafts%20with%20Grandkids/?action=view&current=nov12012007.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Halloween 2012" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Crafts%20with%20Grandkids/nov12012007.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
I still have a couple more things I need to make for the trip, so keep checking back. McKenna, our youngest grandchild who we'll see in Hawaii, has asked for a mermaid tail, so as soon as I get her measurements I'll get that made and take it to her for a Christmas present this year.<br />
<br />
<br />Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-20294241420032504932012-10-18T10:10:00.001-05:002012-10-18T10:10:50.191-05:00I know it's been forever......There have been some major changes in our house that has really cut down on my craft/sewing time. I'll post about it on my other blog and add a link when it's done.<br />
<br />
In the mean time, I did get one project completed. We needed a new bag for our tent. Tab and I put it up for the grandkids the weekend of Columbus day and the old bag ripped when we took it out of the garage. SOOOOOOO, Todd said "K, just sew a new one!". LOL He knows me so well!<br />
<br />
I took the old bag apart and used it as a pattern, just added a few inches in the length so it's easier to put the tent in. Here's the finished bag (not a very good picture, but you get the point). <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=tentbag1012.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="480" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/tentbag1012.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I had originally purchased this fabric to make cushions on the new white wicker chairs I bought for the garden. However, I decided they didn't really need them and since this is "outdoor" fabric, it would work great for the tent. It's much heavier than regular cotton fabric.<br />
<br />
After I had the bag done, I was wishing I'd added pockets for the tent stakes, instructions, etc.<br />
<br />
Just in case you're wondering, here's the tent in our backyard.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=tentinbackyard1012.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/tentinbackyard1012.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
This was the first time it's been used in probably 12 years or so. I was very happy there were no holes or anything in it. Tab and I only spent 30 minutes putting it up and the kids had so much fun playing in it. Tab, Alyssa and Angel slept in it all night on Friday, then the weather turned much colder so couldn't the rest of the weekend.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping I'll get to carve out more time for "me", but we'll see. I do still have a few things I want to get done before our trip over Christmas.Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-46924966657894888182012-08-26T21:31:00.004-05:002012-08-26T21:48:08.966-05:00Finally finished my new purse (and accessories)!My old purse was really showing its wear and I have been wanting to make a new one for quite a while. I even bought fabric a while ago, but decided it wasn't what I wanted anymore.<br />
Here it is with the fabric I bought for the lining:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=sewingitemsoct2011014.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/sewingitemsoct2011014.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
I'll have to figure out what to do with that fabric, now.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.jylslife.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-purse-and-laptop-case-d.html" target="_blank">Here</a> is the post that shows my now old purse (and matching laptop bag).<br />
<br />
I was at JoAnn's a week or two ago (I go there pretty much weekly) and found some heavy fabric - not quite as heavy as home decor, but still heavy so I broke down and bought some. I should have bought more, but I think I had three yards. Next time I think I'll just buy it all, because I went back to get some more and it was gone!<br />
<br />
I've been thinking of how I want to make my new purse for a while. I liked the last one, but it was too small (it started out larger, but the corners wore and I had to re-do it and cut an inch off each side). <br />
<br />
I also knew I wanted a separate compartment for my Kindle Fire, and the top needed to be closed instead of open. That way if it falls over in the car it doesn't all spill out. I also knew for sure that I wanted to put small pockets on the short sides, because that's were I put my cell phone.<br />
<br />
I had made another one a couple weeks ago, but it was too big. So I thought maybe I'd use it for a carry on bag when we go to Hawaii in December. Turns out, I ended up purchasing a set of luggage that has the smallest bag that resembles a purse, so I'll just use that. Anyway, that bag was too big, so this one I reduced the size by a couple inches each way and it's much better!<br />
Here it is!!!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012014.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012014.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012015.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012015.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
It has a zippered compartment on the back to hold my Kindle Fire.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012016.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012016.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The inside has all the small pockets I always put in, in addition to a zippered compartment!! That was something new!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012018.jpg" nbsp="nbsp" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012018.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Of course, I also had to make some "accessories" - sun glass holder, tissue holder, small pouch for my dental floss/tooth pick things, and a business card holder.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012021.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012021.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
And a wallet! Made a few changes to this, too. I added more slots for cards, etc and it's not quite as wide as the other one. I also kept a plastic slot on the front for my drivers license.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012022.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012022.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The back has a zippered compartment for change, and behind that is where I keep my money.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012023.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012023.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012024.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012024.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The inside (with a place for my pen!): (Yes, that is an AARP card! Todd turned 50 this year so we're now members! lol )<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012025.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012025.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
Think we have enough checking accounts? We have a total of four - they are all joint accounts, but a couple we use specifically for Todd's business, I have one for my sewing business and then the regular one for household bills.<br />
<br />
There's also space underneath the cards for more storage (deposit slips, etc).<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012026.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012026.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012027.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012027.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
(That long list is what we can purchase for Todd's business that are tax deductions.)<br />
<br />
Everything is still pretty stiff, but as I use it more and more, it will loosen up.<br />
<br />
And speaking of my Kindle Fire - I just HAD to make a new cover for it to match!!! lol It's not quite as bulky as the other one, so it fits in my purse a lot better.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012010.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012010.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012011.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012011.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I did still make the front so I can fold it over and it props up itself. The other one I was using had elastic that covered up the speakers, so I made sure this one doesn't do that. <br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012012.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012012.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Overall I'm very pleased with everything. I really LOVE this fabric!!!!<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful week!!!!!Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-86712058089465737092012-08-26T20:42:00.005-05:002012-08-26T20:50:41.143-05:00Something new!!!! Ironing Board CoversI've been needing to recover my ironing boards (yes, I have three) for a LONG time. Since I'm no longer working (at all - finally!), I decided to tackle that job last week. You can imagine how much I use the ironing boards since I sew a lot. The purses and bags I make have fusible interfacing in them, so the biggest ironing board is rarely put up. <br />
<br />
Here is the "Before" picture:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012001.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012001.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
A closer look - you can see a couple holes that have started to tear. I've tried to wash it, but it would never come clean.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012002.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012002.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
It's a cheap WalMart ironing board and the metal beneath has warped, so the top is not even at all!<br />
<br />
The middle size I have is one I picked up at one of the local thrift shops for $4. There's not a whole lot wrong with that one besides not much padding on the top and being kinda dirty.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012003.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012003.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
The smallest one I really don't use a whole lot, but I figured I was doing the other two, so I might as well do that one, too. It's small and made for sleeves, etc. It was another thrift store find and didn't have ANY cover on it.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012004.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012004.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
And it's actually double sided, but I haven't gotten the smallest side done yet, but everything is cut out.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012005.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012005.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
I decided I needed to use some cotton batting on the bottom to make it even out some, then purchased Ironing Board Batting at JoAnns and added another layer to the top. I kinda cheated and just sewed the new top onto the old one so the bottom isn't very pretty. But the top is!!! I used some thick Ikea fabric on all of them. Here is the "After" of the biggest one:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012006.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012006.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The middle sized one, I thought it needed two layers of the IBC Batting.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012007.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012007.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And the smallest one:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=August2012008.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/August2012008.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
So now I have a matching set!!!!!!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=Untitled.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Untitled" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/Untitled.jpg" /></a><br />

She picked the same fabric as the previous one, but a different fabric for the inside.<br />

<br />
I did also fix the very first one that I made. It's got more space around the zipper and actually has corners that line up!!! I've decided to keep that one for myself. Those are very complicated to make, so don't think I'll be making any more!Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-37366731643037302372012-08-18T15:51:00.002-05:002012-08-18T15:54:01.958-05:00A couple more projects are done!One of Sam's friends at work asked if I'd make some cushions for their custom made dining table. I finally got them done and will be delivering them soon. One cushion is four feet long, the other five feet nine inches long. I had some extra fabric so decided to make a few pillows. Ended up with five round and three rectangular. They picked two different fabrics so they can flip them for different looks. The round pillows are also made from the two fabrics, but not the rectangular ones. Hope they like everything!<br />

Saw this on Pinterest, so bought everything and painted the sticks before going over. All the kids had to do with glue the sticks together, punch out the stars and then decide if they wanted magnets on the back or a ribbon to hang them. I think they turned out pretty good and the kids had fun!<br />

They are really fun to make, even though they take a while and are fairly expensive. I mostly use glass beads, but found some Ivory beads at JoAnn's the other day that I liked - - they looked "Hawiian". :D Here's the newest set - I also made some earrings and a necklace to match! These are not totally stretchy, so I had to use other jewelry items I've had around since I made the jewelry for the cruise in 2009.<br />

</div><div>The sandals on - please pardon my dirty feet - I worked in the garden this morning and hadn't taken a shower yet.</div><div><a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=craftitemslatejune2012016.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/craftitemslatejune2012016.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>The other set is black and off-white. I also made earrings to match it. I only had silver lobster claws, so need to get some gold ones to match.</div><div><a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=craftitemslatejune2012013.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/craftitemslatejune2012013.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br />

</div><div>Aren't they pretty sitting in my new chest?</div><div><a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=craftitemslatejune2012026.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/craftitemslatejune2012026.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>I bought it at an Estate Sale for $10.00!!! I haven't figured out yet what I'm going to do with it. Tossing around the idea of painting it black, then detailing gold on it somehow. For now it's just sitting on the floor in the office (which is getting very full!!!),</div><div><a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=craftitemslatejune2012027.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/craftitemslatejune2012027.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br />

</div><div><br />
</div><div>I also made one more four-section cosmetic bag. This one turned out much better than the first! The corners are matched up and I made the space around the zipper wider so more things will fit in it.</div><div><a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=craftitemslatejune2012002.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/craftitemslatejune2012002.jpg" width="534" /></a></div><div><br />

</div><div>This one is being purchased by someone at work (who asked me to see if I could make it). I'm going to fix the first one I made and use it myself, then I've decided I'm not making any more! They are just too time-consuming and very aggravating trying to get everything matched up.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Enjoy the photos!!! I still have a few more things I've been wanting to make, but Todd will be home for a few days this week (hopefully he'll be home tomorrow - he left June 11!!!) So keep checking back for new posts!!!</div><div><br />
</div>Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-64144787300816483682012-06-18T08:30:00.001-05:002012-06-18T08:32:25.005-05:00Weekend ProjectsJust a couple. I did get another set of Barefoot Sandals. I used Brown and Blue, so it matches one of the dresses I made for our cruise a few years ago. (You can see the fabric <a href="http://jylslife.blogspot.co.il/2010/05/dress-and-jewelry-for-cruise.html" target="_blank">here</a>.) I haven't decided if I'm going to leave it long, or maybe shorten it to either a dress or possibly just a top. Trip's not until December, so I have time to decide.<br />
Here is the last set:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=june182012004.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/june182012004.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
And the three I made so far:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=june182012006.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/june182012006.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Love them all!!!! I wan't planning to sell them, but someone at work asked about a set, specifically the black ones, so I may sell it and make me some more. I can definitely see them get better the more I make. They are VERY time consuming, though!<br />
<br />
The other quick project I did was this:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=june182012002.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Dominoe Bag" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/june182012002.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
And what to you carry in it? Why, Dominoes, of course!!!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=june182012003.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Dominoe Bag" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/june182012003.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
We have some friends who we have supper with every so often and it's fun to play Dominoes with them, so this bag will make it easy to carry the Dominoes around to and from their house.<br />
<br />
I made a trip to JoAnn's last week and found this neat fabric. I haven't decided what I'm going to make yet, but it will be something for the trip. Maybe a beach cover-up???<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=june182012001.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Fabric for Hawaii Trip" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/june182012001.jpg" width="640" /></a>Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-86668763358866299632012-06-04T09:11:00.004-05:002012-06-04T09:22:16.848-05:00Cover for my Kindle Fire!!!!!I know on my <a href="http://www.jylpers.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">my other blog</a> I promised I'd post these during the weekend, but I'm a little late. So you get two posts in one day!!!!<br />
<br />
Also mentioned on my other blog, I bought myself a Kindle Fire for my birthday last month, which I LOVE!!!!! So I decided I needed a cover (of course). After searching the internet for various ideas, I decided to do a pretty simple version and wanted to make it out of fabric to match <a href="http://www.jylslife.blogspot.com/2012/04/i-made-another-cover-for-my-binder.html" target="_blank">my binder</a> and the <a href="http://www.jylslife.blogspot.com/2012/04/i-tried-something-new-last-weekend.html" target="_blank">cosmetic bag</a>. This cover is actually the second one I made, because the first one was made out of denim and I just wanted to use it for a while to decide if there are any changes to it. <br />
Front:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612010.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612010.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
I've decided to use a hair tie for the closure instead of velcro because it's a little more "forgiving" if I don't get the button lined up exactly.<br />
<br />
Back:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612011.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612011.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
Open:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612012.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612012.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I went to Home Depot and bought some plastic to use in picture frames, but cut it up so the cover is much more sturdy than just layers of interfacing. There's one piece behind the kindle, then the cover (which is also the stand), is two separate pieces. When the cover is open, you can hook the elastic on the button on the back, and it turns into a stand! (See the last picture).<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612013.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612013.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612014.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Kindle%20Fire%20Cover/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612014.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. The only think I don't like is that I had to change the way the kindle sits in it (for when I play Angry Birds - lol), so the fabric is actually upside down. I may end up making another one out of fabric that it wouldn't make a difference. I really like the elastic on the corners, but they cover the speakers, so I'd change that, too.<br />
<br />
I'm really looking forward to having this on the 8 hr flights to and from Honolulu later this year.Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-81142303631395251662012-06-04T08:49:00.003-05:002012-06-04T09:01:35.305-05:00Getting ready for the Hawaii Trip!!!!!Christmas can't come soon enough this year! We'll be on the beach in Hawaii to celebrate it!!!<br />
<br />
Todd says this is a "Once in a Lifetime" trip, so we're staying on the North Shore of Oahu at the <a href="http://www.turtlebayresort.com/" target="_blank">Turtle Bay Resort</a>. We've splurged and will spend five nights in at Beach Front Cottage. We'll be in Hawaii for seven days, but will spend the first and last nights with Megan and her family. SO EXCITED!!!! The grandkids are getting so big and it will be REALLY nice to see them all again. Carter will be walking and talking by then, I suppose.<br />
<br />
I've been searching Pinterest and found some ideas of things to make before the trip. One thing I found that I think are really neat are Barefoot Sandals! Perfect for those romantic walks on the beach before bed that I'm hoping for! lol I've had the supplies for a while, but put them away in my sewing cabinet. Memorial Day weekend Todd was home, but he was working outside on his compressor trailer, so I needed something to keep me busy and decided to pull out the supplies.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=Untitled-3.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Untitled" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/Untitled-3.jpg" /></a><br />
I found the pink/white/clear glass beads in the clearance section at WalMart a while ago. (It's hard to take good pictures of your own feet.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=Untitled-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Untitled" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/Untitled-2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=Untitled-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Untitled" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/Untitled-1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
The black/white/clear beads were the first ones I purchased a long time ago at Hobby Lobby.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=Untitled.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Untitled" border="0" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/Untitled.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612008.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612008.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612006.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612006.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/?action=view&current=barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612005.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Barefoot%20Sandals/barfootsandalsandkindlecover0612005.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
Looking at the pictures, I probably shouldn't have taken pictures of my right foot - it's the one with scars on it from when I was really small. lol<br />
<br />
I think the sandals turned out pretty good! I still have lots of the stretchy cord left, so I may end up making a few more, but we'll see. I'm really not planning to buy a whole lot of new clothes for the trip - I still have a bunch from when we went on the cruise a few years ago and will take most of them. We're also going to a luau, and doing a lot of the "touristy" things. Part of what I'm earning working part time has been going to to pay for the trip, so soon it will be paid for! That will be nice!Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-90246343724087604202012-04-30T09:15:00.003-05:002012-04-30T09:24:26.633-05:00I tried something new last weekend.One of the ladies at work had an old cosmetic bag that she wondered if I could make a new one. She let me bring it home. I did get another one made, I see some flaws in it, but it really turned out pretty good!<br />
<br />
This is hers:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=gardenandmakeupbag043012001.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="266" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/gardenandmakeupbag043012001.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Hers needs to be cleaned, but she can't get it clean, plus where the hanger hooks on it's ripping.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=gardenandmakeupbag043012007.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="400" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/gardenandmakeupbag043012007.jpg" width="266" /></a><br />
<br />
Hers and the one I made:<br />

<br />
Here they are hung up together<br />

<br />
The one major flaw is that the corners don't match up, so it doesn't sit up good and that's why it's all "wonky" when hanging. I won't point out the few other mistakes. lol<br />
<br />
It really is a nice bag, but with all the supplies (mesh, four small zippers, vinyl and one purse zipper), I'd have to charge quite a bit for it, plus the one I made took me at least 9 hours! I'm not sure if she's going to want one or not, but it was fun trying and I may fix this one and use it myself!!!!<br />
<br />
We've got all the details of our trip to Hawai'i in December ironed out. It's charged on our credit card and hopefully will be paid off before the trip! We're putting at least half of my paychecks toward the trip and the last two weeks I worked four days each week. It was too much and really reminded me of why I left in the first place, but I'll put up with it for a little while to get this trip paid for quicker.Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-19956476773017760552012-04-16T13:02:00.002-05:002012-04-16T13:04:57.900-05:00I made another cover for my binder!!!!The first one was OK, but I had wanted it large enough to sew around the edges and I wasn't very happy with the closure. So, went to Hobby Lobby one day and they had this really neat travel fabric. We're planning to spend Christmas in Hawai'i this year to see Todd's oldest and her family, so this was perfect!!!!<br />
<br />
Here's the front:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=EasterandGarden2012021.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Second Binder Cover, Front" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/EasterandGarden2012021.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Open and inside the front cover - added an extra layer so I could use it to store paper in, and also a couple slots for business cards.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=EasterandGarden2012022.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Inside Front Cover" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/EasterandGarden2012022.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Inside the back cover - storage for extra papers and a slot for sticky notes!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=EasterandGarden2012022.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Inside Front Cover" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/EasterandGarden2012022.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
And the back<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=EasterandGarden2012024.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Second Binder Cover, Back" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/EasterandGarden2012024.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Unfortunately, that's about all the sewing I've done for a while. I'm back to work minimum 33 days a week, sometimes more. Plus, we built a garden enclosure and I've been planting vegetables!!!! You can see the post about it <a href="http://jylpers.blogspot.com/2012/04/garden-is-coming-along-very-well.html" target="_blank">here</a>.Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-69796872361094007622012-03-27T21:23:00.001-05:002012-03-27T21:24:34.119-05:00I made a cover for my new binder!!!!It's good, but I know I can do better. lol I bought some more fabric this week and whenever I get time, I'll start on another one.<br />
<br />
In the mean time, here are the pictures: (I have reusable shopping bags made out of this fabric.)<br />
Front - the flap for the magnetic closure is kinda off center. I think the next one I"ll use velcro. And a little piece of elastic to keep a pen.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=bluebonnetsandbindercover032712048.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/bluebonnetsandbindercover032712048.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
Inside front cover: Two places for business cards and a place to slip paper. Next one I may make room for some more business cards - I need to order some for Todd's trucking business.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=bluebonnetsandbindercover032712049.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/bluebonnetsandbindercover032712049.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Inside back cover: another place to slip paper, and also a little pocket to keep post it notes.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=bluebonnetsandbindercover032712050.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/bluebonnetsandbindercover032712050.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
And the back:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=bluebonnetsandbindercover032712048.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/bluebonnetsandbindercover032712048.jpg" width="426" /></a>Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-40080690558076191042012-03-23T10:02:00.005-05:002012-03-23T10:18:26.121-05:00More Organizational Tools!!!!I used to be a big fan of the "Daytimer" products, but since I made my purse and wallet, I haven't been using my old Daytimer planner. <br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012022.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012022.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Plus, it's a little small. These pages that hold credit cards are about 4" by 7"<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012023.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012023.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
So.....I went to Office Depot after work the other day to see if I could find something else. They had the perfect size of binder, about 7" by 9". The only problem was the rings were 2" and that was too wide. I decided to look online and found the same size binder with 1" rings - PERFECT! I looked everywhere to see if I could find loose-leaf paper to go in it and couldn't find any. I'm sure someone probably makes it, but I was tired and just decided to order a Heavy Duty Hold Punch. The punches are adjustable and you can have up to 7 holes! Ordered them and they arrived yesterday so I sat down after work last night and put my new organizer together. And here it is!!!!<br />
Front - I wasn't worried about the color because when I make my new purse, I'll also make a cover for the binder so it closes and has a place to hang a pen.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012013.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012013.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Inside - I goofed and ordered a binder with a pocket on the inside. I need to decided if I want to just cover up the pocket (because it would be a good place to hide something), or if I want to order another one that doesn't have a pocket. For now, I'll just use this one.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012014-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012014-1.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I ended up having to cut a regular size piece of paper, but I got two small pieces out of one regular size. Each piece of paper is approximately 5 1/2" by 8". It doesn't sound like a lot, but it really gives me more room to write things. I also found somewhere online a place to print off lined paper <u>landscape</u>, so used that then cut the paper (I did also have to cut about 1/2" off the long side of the paper before I cut it in half ) and put holes in it. I decided to print off a calendar to put in, and I also made dividers. Labeled them with my new DYMO label maker - LOVE IT!!!!!!<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012015.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012015.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
Of course, Office Supplies are tax deductible for Todd's business, so I made sure to have part of the binder dedicated to his business. lol I also put the list of what is tax deductible so it's handy when I'm out shopping.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012016.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012016.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
Inside the back cover there is a pocket, so I stuck some post-it notes there. I think I'll add at least one or two pockets there when I make the cover.<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012020.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012020.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
The only other thing I think I'm going to make are some folders to hold my coupons. I won't have to use my coupon holder then, but I don't use lots of coupons anyway.<br />
The dividers are labeled: <br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>Calendar</i></span> (with my list of birthdays and anniversaries here so I can get cards when one comes up),<br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>Grocery List</i></span> </span>(coupons will be kept here),<br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>To Do List</i></span>,<br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>TJDJ Trucking</i></span>,<br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>Original Designs by Jyl</i></span> (JoAnn's coupons will be kept here), <br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>Money</i></span>, <br />
and <span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>Travel</i></span> (to keep info on our Hawaii trip for this Christmas we're starting to plan). <br />
<br />
I also have a couple blank dividers and some extra paper.<br />
<br />
Just for comparison - here's the Daytimer on top of the binder to show how much larger the binder is:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/?action=view&current=March2012025.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Organizational%20Tools/March2012025.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The thing I really love about it is that it's all loose-leaf, so I can change things around when I need to. I'm really anxious to start on my new purse so I can make it large enough to carry the binder with me everywhere. I am going back to work part-time for a little while, but only because someone just quit and I'm going to put the extra money into our "Hawaii" fund. Although now I'm worried about being able to make enough product to sell at the craft shows I was wanting to do this spring/summer. I'll have to see how things go working three days, and having four days off.<br />
<br />
Keep checking back - I'll post pictures when I start on my new purse and I'll post updated pictures of the cover for the binder!!!!!Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-20106498465780986872012-03-14T15:02:00.000-05:002012-03-14T15:02:15.213-05:00I'm thinking of doing a craft show or two this year.The second Saturday of each month there is a large show in downtown (Historic) Georgetown. While doing research on the cost of things and trying to figure out what to price my items at, I ran across a great blog post about <a href="http://www.somersherwood.com/?p=126" target="_blank">The True Cost of Handmade</a>. Very interesting and I'd recommend everyong who appreciates handmade items read it.<br />

Thanks!!!!!Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7062729373233652142.post-63083089457567335922012-03-08T07:11:00.002-06:002012-03-08T07:12:16.725-06:00I've been wanting one of these for a long time.....Mom used to have something like this. I've seen them at Michael's and can't remember how much they were, but I do remember thinking it was too expensive. Then I joined <a href="http://pinterest.com/tjdjtjdj/"><img alt="Follow Me on Pinterest" height="26" src="http://passets-cdn.pinterest.com/images/follow-on-pinterest-button.png" width="156" /></a>, I found <a href="http://www.ikatbag.com/2012/02/hamper.html" target="_blank">instructions to make one</a>!!!! It's actually instructions to make a hamper, but I wanted to use it to hold my yarn. The wood and hardware cost about $15 and the fabric I had on hand. The blue fabric is kind of plastic coated and was kind of hard to work with. I did make some changes on the bag (like I always do). I made the main part of the bag, and had separate pieces that go over the dowels.<br />
<br />
Here's the finished project:<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=03062012006.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/03062012006.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=03062012005.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/03062012005.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/?action=view&current=03062012008.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/tjdjgodwin/Quilts%20and%20other%20sewing%20stuff/03062012008.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The other change I made was adding a lining and pockets to the inside. This allows me to keep my knitting needles, crochet hooks, patterns, etc. in it. I haven't dug all my yarn out yet and I'm not sure it's all going to fit, but it will definitely better than what I had before.<br />
<br />
I may end up making another bag, but for now I'm very happy with this!Jyl's Lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15062254458272276227noreply@blogger.com0
