Another cosmetic bag

This was requested by one of the new people where I used to work.  She picked the same fabric as the previous one, but a different fabric for the inside.








I did also fix the very first one that I made.  It's got more space around the zipper and actually has corners that line up!!!  I've decided to keep that one for myself.  Those are very complicated to make, so don't think I'll be making any more!

A couple more projects are done!

One of Sam's friends at work asked if I'd make some cushions for their custom made dining table.  I finally got them done and will be delivering them soon.  One cushion is four feet long, the other five feet nine inches long.  I had some extra fabric so decided to make a few pillows.  Ended up with five round and three rectangular.    They picked two different fabrics so they can flip them for different looks.  The round pillows are also made from the two fabrics, but not the rectangular ones. Hope they like everything!

Crafts with the Grandkids

I watched Alyssa, Angel and Tyler last week for a few hours, so decided it would be fun to do a craft with them!  Saw this on Pinterest, so bought everything and painted the sticks before going over.  All the kids had to do with glue the sticks together, punch out the stars and then decide if they wanted magnets on the back or a ribbon to hang them.   I think they turned out pretty good and the kids had fun!

It seems I'm addicted to making barefoot sandals......

because we are only going to be in Hawaii for seven days, and I now have five sets of Barefoot Sandals.  They are really fun to make, even though they take a while and are fairly expensive.  I mostly use glass beads, but found some Ivory beads at JoAnn's the other day that I liked - - they looked "Hawiian".  :D  Here's the newest set - I also made some earrings and a necklace to match!  These are not totally stretchy, so I had to use other jewelry items I've had around since I made the jewelry for the cruise in 2009.

The sandals on - please pardon my dirty feet - I worked in the garden this morning and hadn't taken a shower yet.

The other set is black and off-white.  I also made earrings to match it.  I only had silver lobster claws, so need to get some gold ones to match.

I bought it at an Estate Sale for $10.00!!!  I haven't figured out yet what I'm going to do with it.  Tossing around the idea of painting it black, then detailing gold on it somehow.  For now it's just sitting on the floor in the office (which is getting very full!!!),

I also made one more four-section cosmetic bag.  This one turned out much better than the first!  The corners are matched up and I made the space around the zipper wider so more things will fit in it.

This one is being purchased by someone at work (who asked me to see if I could make it).  I'm going to fix the first one I made and use it myself, then I've decided I'm not making any more!  They are just too time-consuming and very aggravating trying to get everything matched up.

Weekend Projects

Just a couple.  I did get another set of Barefoot Sandals.  I used Brown and Blue, so it matches one of the dresses I made for our cruise a few years ago.  (You can see the fabric here.)   I haven't decided if I'm going to leave it long, or maybe shorten it to either a dress or possibly just a top.  Trip's not until December, so I have time to decide.

Love them all!!!!  I wan't planning to sell them, but someone at work asked about a set, specifically the black ones, so I may sell it and make me some more.  I can definitely see them get better the more I make.  They are VERY time consuming, though!

And what to you carry in it?  Why, Dominoes, of course!!!

We have some friends who we have supper with every so often and it's fun to play Dominoes with them, so this bag will make it easy to carry the Dominoes around to and from their house.

I made a trip to JoAnn's last week and found this neat fabric.  I haven't decided what I'm going to make yet, but it will be something for the trip.  Maybe a beach cover-up???

Cover for my Kindle Fire!!!!!

I know on my my other blog I promised I'd post these during the weekend, but I'm a little late.  So you get two posts in one day!!!!

Also mentioned on my other blog, I bought myself a Kindle Fire for my birthday last month, which I LOVE!!!!!  So I decided I needed a cover (of course).  After searching the internet for various ideas, I decided to do a pretty simple version and wanted to make it out of fabric to match my binder and the  cosmetic bag.  This cover is actually the second one I made, because the first one was made out of denim and I just wanted to use it for a while to decide if there are any changes to it.

I've decided to use a hair tie for the closure instead of velcro because it's a little more "forgiving" if I don't get the button lined up exactly.

I went to Home Depot and bought some plastic to use in picture frames, but cut it up so the cover is much more sturdy than just layers of interfacing.  There's one piece behind the kindle, then the cover (which is also the stand), is two separate pieces.  When the cover is open, you can hook the elastic on the button on the back, and it turns into a stand!   (See the last picture).



Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.  The only think I don't like is that I had to change the way the kindle sits in it (for when I play Angry Birds -  lol), so the fabric is actually upside down.  I may end up making another one out of fabric that it wouldn't make a difference.  I really like the elastic on the corners, but they cover the speakers, so I'd change that, too.

I'm really looking forward to having this on the 8 hr flights to and from Honolulu later this year.

Getting ready for the Hawaii Trip!!!!!

Christmas can't come soon enough this year!  We'll be on the beach in Hawaii to celebrate it!!!

Todd says this is a "Once in a Lifetime" trip, so we're staying on the North Shore of Oahu at the Turtle Bay Resort.  We've splurged and will spend five nights in at Beach Front Cottage.  We'll be in Hawaii for seven days, but will spend the first and last nights with Megan and her family.  SO EXCITED!!!!  The grandkids are getting so big and it will be REALLY nice to see them all again.  Carter will be walking and talking by then, I suppose.

I've been searching Pinterest and found some ideas of things to make before the trip.  One thing I found that I think are really neat are Barefoot Sandals!  Perfect for those romantic walks on the beach before bed that I'm hoping for!  lol    I've had the supplies for a while, but put them away in my sewing cabinet.  Memorial Day weekend Todd was home, but he was working outside on his compressor trailer, so I needed something to keep me busy and decided to pull out the supplies.

I found the pink/white/clear glass beads in the clearance section at WalMart a while ago.  (It's hard to take good pictures of your own feet.)








The black/white/clear beads were the first ones I purchased a long time ago at Hobby Lobby.








Looking at the pictures, I probably shouldn't have taken pictures of my right foot - it's the one with scars on it from when I was really small.  lol

I think the sandals turned out pretty good!  I still have lots of the stretchy cord left, so I may end up making a few more, but we'll see.  I'm really not planning to buy a whole lot of new clothes for the trip - I still have a bunch from when we went on the cruise a few years ago and will take most of them.  We're also going to a luau, and doing a lot of the "touristy" things.  Part of what I'm earning working part time has been going to to pay for the trip, so soon it will be paid for!  That will be nice!

I tried something new last weekend.

One of the ladies at work had an old cosmetic bag that she wondered if I could make a new one.  She let me bring it home.  I did get another one made, I see some flaws in it, but it really turned out pretty good!

Hers needs to be cleaned, but she can't get it clean, plus where the hanger hooks on it's ripping.

The one major flaw is that the corners don't match up, so it doesn't sit up good and that's why it's all "wonky" when hanging.  I won't point out the few other mistakes.  lol

It really is a nice bag, but with all the supplies (mesh, four small zippers, vinyl and one purse zipper), I'd have to charge quite a bit for it, plus the one I made took me at least 9 hours!  I'm not sure if she's going to want one or not, but it was fun trying and I may fix this one and use it myself!!!!

We've got all the details of our trip to Hawai'i in December ironed out.  It's charged on our credit card and hopefully will be paid off before the trip!  We're putting at least half of my paychecks toward the trip and the last two weeks I worked four days each week.  It was too much and really reminded me of why I left in the first place, but I'll put up with it for a little while to get this trip paid for quicker.
